Festival

Midwest Regional Black Theatre Festival offers an exhibit of new and established African American Plays and Musicals, Workshops, Seminars, poetry, and dance presented by local and national theater art professionals…People of all backgrounds and ages are invited and encouraged to participate and attend!

As a result of successfully producing the Midwest Regional Black Theatre Festival in 1998 and 2000, Cincinnati Black Theatre Company (CBTC) officially became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in November 2001. CBTC ’s produces the Festival (2002, 2004, and 2006) that is held at venues throughout Greater Cincinnati and the surrounding areas. The Festival offers an exhibit of new and established African American plays and musicals; workshops, poetry, music, dance and other activities presented by local, regional and national theatre arts organizations, theatre companies, professionals, non-professionals and children.

Education

Imagine That!, activities are designed to address literacy issues, enhance communication and analytical skills, increase knowledge of African American theater, heighten cultural awareness, foster appreciation for the arts and develop skills in all theater art disciplines. Children who attend our classes or perform in our productions, must maintain a “C” average and above in school. Parents and guardians are very involved in their children’s activities within in every aspect of CBTC.

Most importantly, CBTC addresses the promise of the youth of Greater Cincinnati, not just in terms of theater arts, but in educational and social development. The investment we make now in our children mirrors the level of success we will attain in the future. We, at the CBTC believe that through theatre art education we will address that through theater art education we will address many of the literacy and communication skills that our youth lack today.

Support

It is becoming increasingly clear that Greater Cincinnati and the diversity therein, needs and supports CBTC and its mission. Our rapid growth has required financial support from foundations, organizations, corporations, government agencies and arts organizations, and individuals in order to meet the demands of the public.

All support will continue to help propel the Cincinnati Black Theatre Company, and the Festival, to regional and national prominence, bringing greater employment opportunities to the community, revenue to the area, attention to what we are achieving, and support for the goals we are pursuing. There is much CBTC can accomplish, and with your help, we will. CBTC’s young members said it all in the title of their youth-produced, Every Voice Counts. By supporting CBTC, you can make your voice count, now and for the future – a better future for Cincinnati!
